Der Kaispeicher A diente früher u.a. als Kakaospeicher. Nach jahrelangem Leerstand wurde 2005 beschlossen, den Kaispeicher zur Elbphilharmonie Hamburg auszubauen. Die Konzerthalle wird auf dem Dach des denkmalgeschützten Speichers errichtet.
